My favourite tip for any beginner photographer is about the rule of thirds...
-When shooting have the camera's display screen setting of the 3x3 grid turned on. Then when framing you can places points of interest in the intersections or along the lines of the grid implementing the rule of thirds more accurately.
When framing up...
-Shoot through objects – fences, curtains, archways, flowers and window are good choices.
-Frame up and wait for the perfect moment when shooting moving subjects.
-Get low/high - out of 4-6 feet range as this provides a shoot from an angel we don't see everyday.
-Avoid busy backgrounds - separate your foreground and background - distract/detract.
-Balance elements in your shot - have your main subject in the foreground and second subject in the background.
-Ask your self does this add to/take away from my shoot.
-Use symmetry - this can create an eye catching photograph.
-Avoid cutting out part of the subject
Lately and most importantly of all experiment...
-Try new and different things in your shoots
-Shoot the same thing multiple times in different ways (angels/times of day)
-Play around with the focus to try and create effective blurs.
-There are no strict rules in photography.
